Zabola Estate is a lived-in historic family estate and hotel in Zăbala, Transylvania. Its approximately 50-hectare historic castle park forms part of a wider landscape of more than 500 hectares under the estate’s stewardship. The Mikes family has been connected with Zabola for over 600 years.

The New Castle

The imposing building is the development of Count Armin MIKES at the beginning of the 20th century. The several companies he ran needed offices and the increased number of guests accommodation to stay. The kitchen also functioned here from where food

travelled through the Tunnel into the drawing room of the Old Castle. At present The New Castle is the main building of the noble resort featuring 5 suites and 6 extravagant rooms.

The Machine House

At the beginning the building served as headquarter for personal and maintenance.

It housed the water pumps, generators and it had only one floor. Later, Klementina, the wife of Armin Mikes and sister of Istvan Bethlen prime minister of Hungary, extended the building and weaving machines for the family's baize production were set up on the 1st floor. Therefore, it is called The Machine House.
